Deborah Josefson, M.D., Associate Medical Director

Subspecialties: Genitourinary Pathology

Dr. Josefson is board certified in both anatomic pathology and internal medicine. She is a graduate of Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine in Ramat Aviv, Israel, and completed anatomic pathology residency training at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco. In addition she pursued a subspecialty in oncologic surgical pathology with a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She trained in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Yale University’s Norwalk Hospital and at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, San Francisco.

Prior to joining Bostwick Laboratories, Dr. Josefson was the director of anatomic pathology at the VA-Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System and an assistant professor at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, where she served on the Gastrointestinal Cancer Task Force and the Barrett’s Esophagus Task Force.

Dr. Josefson has subspecialty interests in GI pathology and cancer chemoprevention. She has authored over 300 published medical news and reviews pieces for the British Medical Journal, the Infectious Disease Review, the Western Journal of Medicine and Cambridge University Press. Additionally, she is currently writing a textbook of pathology that has been accepted for publication by Cambridge University Press. Her professional affiliations include the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists and the American Association for Space and Gravitational Biology.
